How to start your bullet journal

How To Start Your Bullet Journal

What would you do with more free time every day in your life?, wouldn’t be nice to get done all those chores and task and still have some free time to enjoy a coffee cup, a walk or some time with your family without thinking about all those things you need to do?

This happens when you get organized and you know in advance what you need to work on and you can finish all those chores and task on time every day!

Everyday more and more people around the world are looking for a way to get organized and have more free time in their lives.

How to get organized?

I used to think that taking some time to write on an “agenda” will take me lots of time to get organized and will make more work for me.

Even I was thinking that way, I started to work on my first agenda and started to see the difference between have a “so many things to do” and never finish my “to do list” and starting to see I could do more in less time.

Then I found out about Personal planners and how it could help me to get organized on only about my “work to do” but in more ways to see my life as a whole.

You don’t need to work all day long!!

A persons life is not just work, even work is important these days, and each one of us need to get a job and do it the best we can do it.

Life is more!

You might want to keep track on many aspects of your life:

  • Work
  • Personal achivienments.
  • Personal grow.
  • Physical.
  • Spiritual.
  • Family.
  • Friends.
  • Finances.

And the list could go on and on, you might have some personal projects or dreams you want to work on and one day make each one true.

  • Become your own boss.
  • Start your own business.
  • Own your own house.
  • Start a new career.
  • Start a family.
  • Travel.
  • Write a book.

Write a Plan.

Each one of our dreams happens in our minds for a few seconds.

Most of our dreams will be just that, a second in our minds, and you can think “how great would be it that could be true”, how nice could be if you could visit Greece or New Zeeland, you can add the name of that dream place you want to visit, how nice would it be if you could run your own business and be your own boss.

For a moment just think on one of your dreams, and see how much you would love if you could make it true.

If you don’t write it down, the probabilities are it won’t happen ever.

Sad but true.

And this is why your personal planner and your bullet journal can help you to work on your dreams, one at the time or all of them at the same time.

And this is also why many people is working with a bullet journal to write down their dreams and day by day work on them.

To take track on what started just as a dream and little by little you can work on it, until one day you will see for yourself this dream has become a reality and now you own it, it’s yours.

Remember those notebooks where you used to doodle on them?

Some of us can even remember one page, doodles can stay  in our minds for longer periods of time.

I can see more and more bullet journals where people share their schedule and also their doodles and even their works of art.

All of it in just one little notebook.

 Bullet journal?

A beautiful notebook that can be: fun, intelligent, flexible, personal, practical, all in one!

In general is a regular notebook where you can write down your calendar, your weekly calendar and your to do list.

You can make it your own.

Not two persons are the same.

So why to have an “agenda” to write down what you need to do every day the same way as many people does.

Bullet journal can be as versatile as you need it to be for your own life.

You can work on a part of your bullet journal for your work and your “regular life”, your job, your chores and all those “to do list” you need to work day after day.

And you can work on your dreams on another part of your “bullet journal”, all in the same notebook.

Write down a Plan and make an strategy to achieve it.

Let’s talk about the next trip you want to do.

If you’re good at drawing you can make a drawing of the place you want to visit, but if you’re not good at drawing, find a good picture of the place you want to visit, one picture that calls you to visit it, not only one picture.

Take your time to find the right picture, and place it on one page, write a phrase that tell you the main reason to visit this place.

What for?

On the next page write all the reasons why you want to visit this place, it’s said if you give the right reasons to your brain why you need to work on one subject, you will find the right reasons to work on this project and don’t quit.

Write down all the reasons that comes to your mind, even the smallest reasons, all of them are valid. You don’t need to do this in one hour or one day, any time you have a new reason, go back to this page and write it down.

Write down a strategy.

On the next page, you can start working on your strategy.

Yes, you will work on it like we all know how to do it, step one, step two and on and on.

  • step one…. find all the information about this place I want to visit.
  • step two… how do I get there, plane, train, car, boat?
  • step three… how much will cost me to visit this place?
  • step four… how many day will be enough time to visit this place?
  • step five… what places of it I want to visit?
  • And keep working on many steps as you need two.

Then you can write down all you need to work on for every step you need to do.

Let’s talk about the money you will need to visit this place.

How much money you will need.

Once you know, then you need to work on how will you start saving for it, weekly, monthly or every year?

You might need to think about how much money you will need for the transport, and where will you stay, in a hotel, rent a department, how much money you need for it?

If you’re planning to visit some places, how much will it cost.

You can achieve anything you want to with your bullet journal.

A bullet journal is not only a beautiful decorated notebook.

It’s your own way to work on your plans and dreams and make them true.

As I explained how you can work on your trip, you can also work on anything you want to.

Your own business… make a plan, think and write down anything that comes to your mind, if you need help to work on one step, write down also how you can get help.

Write down all the ideas that comes up to your mind.

Work on every step, your bullet journal will become you life mate, you will be working on every part of your life where you want to achieve a goal.

In time you will see you will be working on each one of them, and you will find one day you will be traveling to that place you always wanted to visit.

One day you will be opening your new business and you will be your own boss.

There’s not mistakes.

Don’t worry, if one thing you wrote down doesn’t work anymore, it’s just a journal, and you can use the next page to work on it.

Plans can change.

In time you will find the more you work on a plan, plans can be easier to work on them and you might think one thing to work on one day, and you will think on an easier way to work on it the next day or something that will work better on your project.

Don’t be afraid to make changes. You will be a “pro” of your bullet journal.

Conclusion.

If you don’t write down your dreams, you will be thinking about something else the next day!

If a dreams come over and over to your mind, it’s time to work on it, write it down, find the real reason why you want it, and make a plan.

I know, sometimes life can be hectic and in a momento you might have so many things to do at the same time, family and Friends can make anyone’s life, in order to get more free time to spend it with your family and Friends without feeling bad about it.
This is why I recomend to work on a personal planner, and find what chores or task are the important ones for work, and find the way to work on them first time and then you will have more time to spend with your love ones!

  2. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail ! Enjoyed this article, Alejandra. You are obviously a very organised person and I salute you ! You are right when you say that when you make lists people think that you are often over organised and that you have no time for relaxing and enjoying time-out. But of course these must get their own Bullets. I think a Bullet journal is a great idea, something light and practical that can follow you wherever you go.
